For Every Child, a Future. For Every Future, a Community.
For over 30 years, the Quality Life Center of Southwest Florida has been a cornerstone of hope in the Dunbar community, empowering thousands of young lives through a proven blend of arts, character, and education. We are more than an afterschool program; we are a family, a safe haven, and a launching pad for the next generation of leaders.

Our Story: 30 Years of Transformation
In 1990, where a nightclub once stood, a new vision took root. Our founder, Abdul 'Haq Muhammed, alongside a group of dedicated parents, saw a need for a safe, nurturing space where the youth of Dunbar could find positive role models and healthy activities. They transformed a site of community pain into a place of promise, and the Quality Life Center (QLC) was born.
Today, that promise is a 22,000-square-foot state-of-the-art educational facility, a landmark of progress at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Quality Life Center Way. For over three decades, "The Q" has been the heart of the community, a testament to the power of believing in our children and investing in their potential. We don't just serve our community; we are our community.
The Challenge We Face Together
In the communities we serve, the promise of youth runs up against harsh realities. With 92% of local public school students designated as “economically disadvantaged” and nearly 70% of third graders reading below grade level, the risk of falling behind is significant [1]. These challenges are compounded by a high crime rate and a lack of safe, supervised afterschool alternatives, leaving too many children vulnerable when the school bell rings.
This is more than an achievement gap; it's an opportunity gap. The Quality Life Center exists to fill that gap.
Our Proven Solution: The A.C.E. Program
We believe that to build a successful life, you must nurture the whole child. Our flagship A.C.E. (Arts, Character & Education) program is a comprehensive, evidence-based model that provides students aged 5-18 with the tools they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our approach is built on four key pillars:

Academics
We provide small-group tutoring and homework assistance with evidence-based curricula in reading and math, helping students not just catch up, but excel.
Enrichment
Through visual and performing arts, dance, music, martial arts, and STEM projects, we ignite creativity, build discipline, and foster a love for learning.
Leadership
Our "Leaders in Training for Excellence" program equips teens with career exposure, college readiness skills, and the confidence to become changemakers.
Mental Health
Licensed therapists offer crucial support, providing counseling and educational sessions on emotional regulation, self-esteem, and resilience.
Our Impact: The Proof Is in the Progress
The Returns on Our Investment are Measured in Lives Changed.
For over 30 years, the results have spoken for themselves. Our commitment to excellence and accountability has earned the highest ratings from charity evaluators and, most importantly, the trust of the families we serve.

“The Quality Life of SWFL has been a huge part of not just my children's lives but also my own. I have been associated with the Q for close to 30 years... even though I was a troubled teen, Mr. Muhammed, as well as the staff of the Q, never gave up on me. My children are a part of the Q family now and are growing tremendously!”

Introducing: Quality Life Academy
As part of our unwavering commitment to our community, we are proud to introduce our newest initiative: Quality Life Academy (QLA). QLA is a year-round, K-12 private school experience that moves beyond the one-size-fits-all model to provide a personalized, powerful, and purpose-driven education for every student.
At QLA, we believe there is a genius in every learner. Our blended model combines direct instruction with cutting-edge technology and a deep focus on the arts, leadership, and whole-child wellness. Here, students don’t just learn subjects; they discover who they are, why they matter, and how they can serve the world.
National Hub for Youth-Led Change: QLA is also the proud national hub for Youth-Led Community Solutions, a groundbreaking initiative that empowers young people across the country to design and implement real-world solutions to the challenges they see in their own communities.
