Bryan's Story

Bryan was first introduced to Quality Life Center at the young age of 4 years old. Despite the fact that he wasn’t experiencing any behavior problems or suffering from family crisis, his time at Quality Life Center provided the support system and positive environment he needed to later reach his academic and professional goals.

Bryan was initially enrolled in the martial arts program. As his martial arts skills developed he also began to develop self-confidence and self-esteem. Martial arts taught him values such as integrity, honesty, discipline and the pursuit of excellence. These values helped to shape his outlook on life and were the ground work for strengthening his determination to succeed in whatever he set his mind to.

When asked about the benefits he received from Quality Life Center he stated, “Quality Life Center helped me to learn how to speak and present myself well. The programs provided also helped me to excel in my reading, writing and math skills in addition to picking up my second language. QLC provided different avenues for me to stay occupied, stay out of trouble and to express myself which helped me to grow into the person I am today.”

Bryan fully participated in the field trips and events provided by the Quality Life Center. Visiting historically black museums and participating in Kwanzaa celebrations helped him to gain cultural awareness and appreciation. Health seminars hosted by Quality Life Center helped him to learn how to care for himself at the present time and into the future. Nevertheless, what really strengthened his resolve to go to college and earn his degrees were the trips to historically black colleges and interacting with the African-American professionals within the community. Despite living in a neighborhood known for its crime, juvenile delinquency and economic deficiencies Bryan once stated, “Those trips helped me to experience something beyond my environment.” Bryan then had his goals firmly in mind; he wanted to study law and make an impact in his community and world by attaining the position of Supreme Court Justice.

Where Is Bryan Now?

Bryan is now a college graduate and working in the capacity of a probation officer for the Department of Juvenile Justice enforcing the law with juveniles and adults. He is also a dedicated and loving father. Currently, Bryan is pursing his Master’s degree in Law & Public Policy. He is soon to be enrolled in law school and has a strong desire to receive at least two law degrees. It has always been his dream to make a positive impact on his community and with the road that he is on, he is sure to accomplish that admirable goal.
